There is no democracy without debate. The personal intelligence, the quality of reasoning and an accurate perception of the situation are not the only things at stake during the discussion. The individual status and place in the relational system in which the decision takes part also play an important role. Favoring one aspect or the other during the decision process can lead somebody to take a position opposite to his or her own political views. In an experimental study, citizens debated on the same subject as real politicians in a constituent assembly.
