The ESA Solidarity Measures with those affected by the war in Ukraine

Measures in support of the Ukrainian scholars

The ESA was established in the hope that its work would encourage peaceful and productive relations among peoples. Sociological research has shown that peace is a matter of democracy; democratic societies do not resort to collective violence. The ESA abhors the Russian armed invasion of Ukraine. We stand in solidarity with those affected and all who support freedom.

The ESA Executive Committee, in consultation with the ESA Research Networks Coordinators, decided on the implementation of three measures in support of the Ukrainian scholars:

  1. Solidarity conference fee waiver to scholars displaced from Ukraine for the 16th ESA Conference.

  2. Collecting research opportunities for Ukrainian scholars and advertising them on the ESA website;

  3. Exploration of the possibilities of sensitising European Universities and agencies to develop initiatives for hosting Ukrainian Scholars through collaboration with the European Alliance of Social Sciences and Humanities (EASSH).

Please check the letter by the EASSH to call for action to create an Erasmus + Programme for Ukrainian students here.

The ESA Executive Committee, the ESA Research Networks Coordinators and the ESA members stand in solidarity with those affected by this terrible conflict.
