Developed by the European Sociological Association as an international platform for the sociological discourse on European developments, ES publishes research on Europe rather than research by Europeans. The journal covers social theory and analysis on three levels: the European level itself, comparative research on Europe, and Europe in international perspective. Concentrating on the present, ES articles examine themes reflecting recent and significant changes in Europe from a cross-disciplinary view point. The journal is essential reading for all sociologists, economists, political scientists and social policy analysts wishing to keep abreast of the very latest debates.

Edited By Claire Renzetti
Description
Feminist criminology grew out of the Women’s Movement of the 1970s, in response to the male dominance of mainstream criminology – which meant that not only were women largely excluded from carrying out criminological research, they were also barely considered as subjects of that research.
In this volume, Claire Renzetti traces the development of feminist criminology from the 1970s to the present, examining the diversity of feminisms which have developed:
- liberal feminist criminology
- Marxist, radical and socialist feminist criminologies
- structured action theory
- left realism
- postmodern feminism
- black/multiracial feminist criminology.
She shows how these perspectives have made a great impact on the discipline, the academy, and the criminal justice system, but also highlights the limitations of this influence. How far has feminist criminology transformed research and knowledge production, education, and practice? And how can feminist criminologists continue to shape the future of the discipline?

PROPOSAL FOR THE ESA BOOK PROJECT
Proposals for book projects should be submitted as an attached file by email to the Convenor of the Book Series Editor:
Pertti Alasuutari
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Proposals should include the following:
-
A short introduction to the major features of the book. This introduction should summarize the contents as well as explaining how the book makes a contribution to the study of European society. In what ways does the proposed book make a contribution not covered by other scholarship? Who would be most interested in the approach and findings of the work and why should the book be published?
-
The structure of the book. In the case of a monograph, a short outline of the chapters with a brief summary of each chapter should be provided. A sample chapter would be very useful in the evaluation. Proposals for edited volumes should include the title and an abstract of each contribution and if possible a sample contribution and draft of the introduction to the work.
-
Who are the intended audience of the book in detail? To what extent could the book be considered for educational purposes? This description of potential readers should be as detailed as possible, with mention of specific courses of study for which the book could serve as a major or supplementary text. Please make reference to the needs of specific local markets. For example: 'empirical research on European Union labour market policies and their consequences form an important element in German and Spanish courses in the Sociology of Labour'. Any information which can aid in evaluating the proposal in terms of audience is useful.
-
Biographical data on the authors, contributors and/or editors. This should include previous publication experience as well as present position. It is extremely helpful (although not essential) if one of the editors or authors can demonstrate an extensive English-language publication record.
-
Rough estimate of length in words. For most publications an acceptable length will be 100,000 words (600,000 characters) or less.
-
Although all books in the series are published in English, the Editorial Board has decided that proposals can be submitted also in a limited number of other European languages, in order to make it possible for non English speaking Authors to engage in translation process only once their proposal would have been accepted. Please note that if your proposal is supported, you will have to submit a formal proposal in English.
-
All proposals receive an initial response in a short period of time, after circulation of the proposal among the Editors. Supported proposals are then sent to two external anonymous reviewers, chosen among colleagues from different European countries on the basis of their scholarship in the specific field; their recommendations are sent to the Authors for a reaction. The turn-around time for this step is approximately 2-3 months.
-
Should the Editorial Board confirm interest in the project, the whole file (proposal, reviews and Authors’ response) will be sent out to the Publisher together with Editors’ recommendation for publication. Routledge will take a final decision about publishing the book according to their procedures; Authors will be notified of the decision by the Editors.
